After several years working in the real estate construction and development industry, Mathew Roth and Ryan McDonnell, two neighbors living on Hawthorn Avenue in Needham, took a leap of faith and started their own business in February 2005. In January 2007, they bought a single-family home in Needham, tore it down and built their first house. This project set the company on a path that has seen the construction or renovation of over 250 properties, including dozens of new luxury homes in the greater Boston market.

Ryan and Mat realized early on that they could not accomplish the company’s goals without assembling a strong team and creating a business built on client happiness. They also understood that their team must treat each other and their clients with respect, honesty, and sincerity. Today, that team has the expertise and vision to lead their clients through the entire building process as true partners. Hawthorn likes to be involved as early as possible in the planning process. Whether working on the design or acting as a construction consultant with the client’s architect or designer, Hawthorn works as a team. They help determine feasibility and collaborate on developing and working together on the budget.

Hawthorn Builders also continues to work on their customized system that is designed to evolve in the ever-changing construction industry and one that can also meet their discerning clients’ high expectations. They call this process the Hawthorn Difference. Hawthorn stresses the importance of client service, transparency, process and following their core values.
