Hawthorn Builders is a design-build firm based in Needham that renovates and builds homes in Lexington — whole-home renovations, additions, and restorations of the town's historic colonials and mid-century modern homes, designed and built by one team under one roof.

Lexington asks two very different kinds of renovation work, and both reward a builder who plans before building. Around the Battle Green and in the town's local historic districts stand the colonials and period homes that carry Lexington's Revolutionary-era fabric — homes where exterior changes are reviewed by the Historic Districts Commission and older structures can fall under demolition-delay review. Across town sit Six Moon Hill, Five Fields, Peacock Farms, and other mid-century neighborhoods that are nationally significant in modern residential design — homes of glass, low rooflines, and open plans whose owners want modern systems and performance without losing the architecture that makes the house matter.

The work follows from the stock. Hawthorn Builders!! We decided to partner with them based off of Mat’s knowledge of the Needham marketplace and his expertise in both the real estate and construction marketplaces. Ultimately we decided to build a custom home with him and we were extremely happy with the end product.

During the project he was knowledgeable in every aspect, was very easy to work with and patient when it came to making all the important decisions. We were especially thankful for his excellent communication on a daily basis in regards to where the project stood, what upcoming decisions needed to be made, and multiple recommendations of sources for our needs.
