Celebrating Surfaces and Design

Last night Hawthorn’s Design Director, Jessica Chabot and myself attended a lovely design evFullSizeRender 2ent for ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), hosted by Cosentino, an innovative surface company that offers unique options for designers and architects.

Celebrating ASID’s 40th birthday, the event was New Orleans themed with a jazz band and southern inspired cuisine, all held in their beautiful showroom.

Attending this event gave us an opportunity to check out some of the new lines Cosentino has developed.  One of our favorite new surfaces designed by Cosentino is the Dekton line.  Dekton is a sophisticated mixture of the raw materials used in the production of glass, latest-generation porcelain tiles and quartz surfaces.  Commonly used for kitchen and bathroom counters, this surface has maximum resistance to fire and heat, as well as IMG_5646maximum resistance to scratching and stains.  In fact, this surface can withstand hot pots placed directly on the surface and is the most scratch resistant surface on the market.  Offered in 14 natural color options, many of these resemble marble, but with much less maintenance.

Their showroom boasted samplings of many other surface material, including Silestone, which I found out is a compound made of 93% natural quartz making it exceptionally hard and resilient. It is the first and only quartz worktop with anti-bacterial protection, giving it hygienic properties that are unique on the market.

FullSizeRender 3Not only does Consentino provide a variety of materials and price ranges, they offer unique and innovative designs – from a built in drain board to saturated color options that would work well in a kid’s bath.

Overall a fun and informative evening that offered some insightful new design ideas!
