In November 2009, a Hawthorn Properties client purchased a property on South Street in Needham.  Plans were developed for a custom built home on the site and the project broke ground during the first week of January 2010.

The scope of the project was a 5,800 square foot five bedroom, five and a half bath home that featured personal touches in every room.  The design was developed by the father of the owner, a Sun Valley, ID architect and the construction drawings were furnished by Babbitt Design.  Some of the home's features include:

• Five bedrooms including master suite and four additional second floor bedrooms
• Gourmet kitchen featuring custom cabinetry, absolute black countertops - honed & leathered
• Stainless steel appliances
• Great room with family eating area, wood burning fireplace, custom built mantle, entertainment center and cabinetry
• Living room with detailed trim and wet bar with refrigerator and ice machine
• Den opening to rear deck, patio and back yard
• Grand entrance with 4x8 knotty alder front door, soaring coffered ceiling and custom staircase
• Centralized mudroom featuring custom locker room stalls and workspace with access to garage, front and back yards and kitchen
• Spacious farmers porch with speakers, recessed lighting and mahogany decking
• Full, finished basement with full bath, craft area, media area and ample storage
• Oversized two car garage with storage shed in rear opening to back yard
• Level, 1.5 acre lot with irrigation system, paver patio, mahogany decks and access lighting
• 4 zone hydro air HVAC system with supplemental humidification
• Wireless security & fire prevention system
• Multiple room audio/video system supplied by Sounds Good

Ground broke in January 2010 and the house was framed by end of the spring after some battles with the elements.  The rough stage of the process carried into early summer and the finish phase spanned July and August.  Finishes included custom built-ins, cabinets, trim and moulding. 

The project was finished on schedule and in time for a post Labor Day occupancy date.
